The Living City program explores the ways in which young people relate to the city. They don't have to be an "expert" designer or prospective architect or town planner to enjoy the program. The participants need to be curious about how cities work and what makes particular spaces interesting, and to think about fresh, creative ways of making and using city spaces.
Participants in the program are drawn from public and private schools from south-east Queensland, primarily from Design / Arts faculties. They work over a three day period in a venue on or close to the subject site, typically in small groups of four to five. Part of the program requires visits to the site to gain an understanding of issues and opportunities as they appear 'on the ground'. Visits to other sites may also take place to assist in setting the context for the workshop by offering comparisons - both good and bad - to the subject site.
