Yellow Team
The Yellow Team based their work on the existing library site. Like a number of other teams, this site was attractive due to its ongoing community use and location within the centre.
The team's design intent revolved around the building as a mediator of space and connectivity from Logan Road to the rear of the building, where a large car park could be used for weekend events.
They proposed to open up the building to provide a structure that could function as a community building and as a 'stage' for performance and movie events with the courtyard providing audience space. The rear of the building would also have more window space with an opportunity to extend a deck to the north side of the building overlooking the car park and undercroft of the new busway. This would be treated as potential community space at night or on weekends with regular events, such as markets or performances. LIghting and a painted treatment to the busway undercroft would be installed to create an inviting environment for community use.
The connection from Logan Road to the rear space was proposed to be strengthened and made more inviting through the use of a colourful ceramic surface treatment to the path.
The team proposed that the courtyard space at the front of the library would be less cluttered and more open to allow for community gathering and events. They proposed that the surface of this area would help define it as a welcoming social space by using a soft synthetic grass and underlay. This would extend over low mounds that could be used for seating, as well as providing a seamless sculptural look to the whole space.
