Red Team
The red team focussed on the library space as a key community hub for the people of Stones Corner.
They considered the diversity in the people they observed visiting the centre which included many from different ethnic backgrounds and age groups.
The team's design intent was to create an inviting and vibrant civic facility at the existing library that would reflect the diversity of the community and its visitors. This manifested itself in their design through colourful ceramic in pavements, furniture and other elements. Colourful pavement was proposed to extend out from the site to the kerb in order to invite people using the street into the space.
They also considered the night-time experience of the site, encouraging use at night, as well as during the day. Lanterns suspended over the primary communal space were intended to add a colourful 'ceiling' to the space during the day and a cheerful and inviting character for use at night.
The team also included functional elements such as barbecues and furnishings outside of the main communal space so that the site could attract more use and a diversity of use.
